HAUNT OF FEAR - Volume One

More than fifty years ago, Al Feldstein, Bill Gaines and Harvey Kurtzman began telling “ghost stories” through The Old Witch, who narrated many of the tales between the pages of Haunt of Fear, one of EC’s creepiest horror stories. Now, Geppi’s Entertainment is pleased to bring back the fright experienced a generation ago through their EC Archives from Gemstone Publishing. The hauntingly spectacular artwork by legendary comic artists such as Johnny Craig, Wally Wood, Jack Kamen, Graham Ingels, Jack Davis, Feldstein and Kurtzman has been fully restored in this first volume of Haunt of Fear, which reprints the first six issues, twenty-four stories sure to scare your socks off

For the past 30 years Russ Cochran has been collecting and publishing comic art. Russ Cochran was born in West Plains, Missouri. Without television in the 1940s, Russ developed a passion for comic books. In 1964 Russ earned his Ph.D. in Physics and became the Chairman of the Drake University Physics Department in Des Moines, Iowa. As time passed, Russ felt the desire to become a collector of the comic books he had always enjoyed in his youth.
The hobby brought him to his first comic book convention in 1965. Russ pursued a collector's connection with Bill Gaines, publisher of EC Comics and MAD Magazine. Bill Gaines and Russ Cochran shared a mutual enthusiasm which led to a great friendship. Their relationship inspired Russ Cochran to republish the entire collection of EC comics. In 1975 Russ followed his dream by moving back to West Plains, Missouri while devoting all of his energy toward publishing. Today Russ Cochran's Auction offers select comic art for those collectors who share his appreciation and nostalgia.

Weird Science, originally published in 1950, features science fiction and fantasy stories, flying saucers, aliens, other worlds, space travel, similar to the first science fiction movies of the same period. Volume 1, Issues #1-6, Hardcover, full color, $49.95.

Shock SuspenStories, originally published in 1952, features a mixture of horror, crime, war and social issue-based stories, characterized by ironic "O. Henry" type twist endings, and including the first attempts in the comics medium to teach moral lessons about racial prejudice, anti-Semitism, gang violence, corrupt officials, etc. Volume 1, Issues #1-6, Hardcover, full color, $49.95.

Tales From the Crypt, originally published in 1950, features classic horror stories of vampires, werewolves, ghouls and monsters in the vein of the early Dracula, Frankenstein and Wolf Man movies. This title was EC's best seller, and was the inspiration for several feature films and the HBO series of the same name. Volume 1, Issues #1-6, Hardcover, full color, $49.95.

Two-Fisted Tales, originally published in 1951, features stories of fighting men and war, usually told from the viewpoint of the futility of war. These were really anti-war stories, and were characterized by their historical accuracy in depicting events of the Civil War, World Wars I and II, and the (then-current) Korean War. Written and edited by Harvey Kurtzman, the creator of MAD Magazine. MAD was a comic book in the EC line for 23 issues before becoming a magazine. Volume 1, Issues #1-6, Hardcover, full color, $49.95.
