Mark Squirek
Senior Comic and Art Auction Manager
Diamond
International Galleries
(410) 560-5810
smark@diamondgalleries.com
Mark Squirek has been the Senior Comic and Art
Auction Manager for over four years. Prior to that, he spent six years as a West
Coast Customer Service Rep. for Diamond Comic Distributors. In 1994 he graduated
from the University of Maryland at Baltimore County with a BA in History. In
addition he is a graduate of Second City's training school in Chicago, Illinois.
Besides writing for Scoop, Squirek has been
published in Hogan's Alley, Comics and Games Retailer, Hake's Guide to Disney
Collectibles, and Comic Book Monthly. Outside the world of collecting he has
interviewed Nils Lofgren, Pure Prairie League, Poco, and other rock acts for
Hittin' the Note and several other national print publications.
Squirek has also written for the stage. In 2006 he
was named Playwright of the Year by Broadway World for his one act SOD. They
also named him as an Outstanding Supporting Actor for his work in Edward Albee's
The Goat or Who is Sylvia. 2007 saw the production of his full length play Rooms
By The Sea; Plays Inspired by the Painting of Edward Hopper. One of the plays
from that piece, Conference at Night, centered on the downsizing of the comic
industry in the mid-1950s and its effect on the artists.
As a seven year old Squirek used to accompany his
father to Cleveland Public Library and rush to the library's basement where he
could read comics from the twenties and thirties on their brand new micro-fiche.
It was 1963. While too young to understand Bringing Up Father, it made him
laugh. Not as much as Smokey Stover and Barney Google did, but Jiggs sure was
funny!

Mike Wilbur
Shipping Coordinator
(717) 434-1639
wmike@diamondgalleries.com
Mike Wibur became an employee for Diamond
Comic Distributors in 1992 and began working for
Geppi's Entertainment Publishing & Auctions
through Gemstone in 1994, where he was utilized
for his seemingly never-ending knowledge of
vintage and current comics. Mike received a
bachelor’s degree from Glassboro State College in
communication and journalism and currently writes
the “Catch the Wave” section in Gemstones weekly
online magazine, Scoop and has been doing so since
2002.
Mike is a lifetime collector who grew up
with Silver-Age comics which he absorbed and
repeatedly read as a child. When the high-end
collectible comic character statue market began in
the early-to-mid-‘90s, Mike started collecting
pieces himself, and, due to his personal obsession
with detail, began following, tracking, and
documenting the market.
Mike is also an advisor to the Hake’s Guide
specializing in statues; all entries for these
items are personally updated by Mike for each new
edition, and he contributes data on new entries as
well. He has also served for several years as a
consultant for DC Comics Archives hardcover
reprint program. He is still contacted from time
to time by the program’s editorial coordinator to
supply them with material that may be missing from
their own corporate library. In addition, Mike
also contributed numerous cover images for DC’s
hardcover books Superman: Cover-to-Cover and
Batman: Cover-to-Cover.
As for Mike's personal collections, he
collected vintage comic books for a while but soon
became interested in statues and figurines in the
mid-90s and has pursued that ever since. |
